Record # Travelers Expected for July 4th Holiday

While July 4th falls in the middle of the week this year,  which means most people won’t be getting a long holiday weekend, that  isn’t stopping folks from traveling for the Independence Day holiday.

In case you missed it, the AAA reports that a record 46.9-million Americans will travel 50 miles or more over the July 4th holiday, which is 5% more than last year, and the highest amount in the 18 years AAA has been tracking holiday travelers.

Overall, road trips will be the most popular form of travel over the  holiday, with 39.7-million people hitting the road, up 5.1% from last  year. In addition, for the ninth year in a row, air travel is up, with  3.8-million people flying to their destination, up 7.9% from last year.  Other forms of travel, like trains, buses and cruise ships, are also up  with 3.5-million using those modes of transport, up 5.8%.

Of course with all those people hitting the road, there’s going to be a lot of traffic. The AAA warns that Tuesday, July 3rd  in the late afternoon will be the worst time for road congestion, and  traffic will likely be the worst in Los Angeles, New York and  Washington, DC.
