Smartwatch Saves Teen's Life!

Last Christmas, Austin Hardison got a smartwatch and the present ended up helping him get a heart condition diagnosis. The Arizona 13-year-old says he was feeling lightheaded and the watch notified him that his heart rate was dangerously high at 219 beats per minute.

Austin’s mom, Lynsey, admits she thought her son’s racing heart rate was just from anxious about the upcoming school year, but she took him to the hospital just to be safe. That’s when the teen was diagnosed with a heart disease he’s had since birth called Wolff-Parkinson-White Syndrome, which is a common cause of a rapid heart rate in children, according to MedLine. Now the family credits that Christmas gift with saving Austin’s life by alerting him to his extremely high heart rate.
