Universal Releasing Home Movies Early

Now that multiple countries and American states are going into quarantine mode, it’s never been a better time to cozy up on the couch with a movie. And as theaters either downsize their audiences or close altogether due to coronavirus, Universal Pictures is making things easier for folks at home.

The studio has announced plans to make its upcoming movies available on home entertainment on the same day as their theatrical releases. The initiative kicks off with DreamWorks’ “Trolls World Tour,” debuting on April 10th. Universal is also making films currently in theaters available on-demand as early as this Friday, including horror movies “The Hunt” and “The Invisible Man,” and the Jane Austen adaptation “Emma.”

The movies will be available to rent for 48 hours, at a suggested price of $19.99. The move comes after the domestic box office plummeted to a two-decade low last weekend, with Pixar’s “Onward” topping the list with just over $10-million.
