Game of Thrones” creators David Benioff and D.B. Weiss will produce a new series of “Star Wars” films. The new series will be separate from Rian Johnson’s trilogy and J.J. Abrams’ Skywalker saga. Disney and Lucasfilm have announced the duo will write and produce the new series.
“David and Dan are some of the best storytellers working today,” says Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy. “Their command of complex characters… will break new ground and boldly push “Star Wars” in ways I find incredibly exciting."
Benioff and Weiss seem equally excited about the challenge “We are honored by the opportunity," they offer in a joint statement. "(We're) a little terrified by the responsibility, and so excited to get started.”
- But not to worry "GoT" fans...this'll all go down as soon as “Game of Thrones” is finished. On top of that, there's no timetable on these movies, and they do have an idea for number of films. So be patient!
- ONE MORE THING! The future of Benioff and Weiss’ HBO series, “Confederate,” is now in question. The two were set to serve as showrunners and writers on that show, which had been eyed to launch after “Game of Thrones” wrapped. We'll keep you posted...
