Weekend Movie Wrap-Up

Well, this was theworst Easter weekend for the box office in nearly 15 years. Total earnings for his weekend were $112-million, the lowest since 2005 according to Variety. It could be because there wasn't aĀ Disney release on the slate leading up to the Marvel’s ā€œAvengers: Endgameā€ premiere on April 26th.

But even so, ā€œThe Curse of La Lloronaā€ scored more points for the horror genre for its debut weekend. The movie bumped ā€œShazam!ā€ to the second spot after raking in $26-point-five-million, a solid opening that exceeded expectations. Fellow newcomer ā€œBreakthroughā€ debuted in the third spot, though only by a little more than $11-million.

ā€œHellboyā€ saw a big decline of almost 70-percent for its second weekend, going from third to the tenth spot. Meanwhile, ā€œCaptain Marvelā€ was more popular last week, getting promoted to the fourth spot.
