Principal Collecting Books to Give to Students on Their Birthday

A school principal in North Carolina is working hard to collect books for his students. Glenn Cook, principal at Pleasant Ridge Elementary in Gastonia has a goal of getting enough books donated so that he can give one to each of his 900 students on their birthday.

Cook has asked friends to clean out their bookcases and local businesses have stepped up to help as well, collecting books to hand over to the school leader. He hasn’t reached his goal yet, but he hopes to be there by the first day of school.

“I want the kids to get excited about books,” Cook says. “And I want them to see me excited about books as well.”
