DDG: Team Of Veterans Run Coast-To-Coast While Carrying An American Flag

Since 2010, the nonprofit Team Red, White and Blue (Team RWB) has been helping veterans build healthy lifestyles. To celebrate their 15th anniversary and raise funds to support their programs, this month, a dozen veterans ran 3-thousand-miles across the country in a record-setting continuous relay carrying the American flag. The event, known as the Old Glory Ultra Relay, started in San Diego on May 2nd and finished 17 days later in Washington, D.C. on May 18th.

Retired Special Forces Colonel Michael “Sully” Sullivan, a longtime leader with Team RWB, says they hope the event helps to raise awareness and show that veterans are capable of remarkable achievements. He explains that the team chose a cross-country relay to symbolize veterans’ ongoing contributions to the nation.

Team member and retired Army Lieutenant Cole DeRosa describes the physical demands of the journey, which included running through deserts, snow, and extreme heat. He recalls the emotional moment of reaching the finish line and seeing the support from friends and family. As of now, the team has raised more than $750-thousand toward its $1-million fundraising goal.
