DDG: Boy Returns Precious Wedding Ring Found In Costco Parking Lot

During a Saturday outing to the Costco in Manchester, Missouri, 10-year-old Kal Blank spotted something shiny in the parking lot. Known for collecting coins and small treasures, he bent down and discovered a heavy wedding ring, not realizing at first how valuable it was. The ring belonged to Mae Pratzel, who unknowingly dropped it while returning her shopping cart.

For Mae and her husband Alan, the ring was irreplaceable. Its diamond was the same one Alan had given her nearly 50 years ago when he proposed. Kal’s father confirmed with Costco that someone had reported a missing ring that matched Kal’s find. Instead of just handing it back, Kal polished the ring, placed it in a small keepsake box, and included a handwritten note that read, “I kind of wanted to keep it ’cause it was pretty and shiny. I hope you relax now that you have your ring back.”

Mae and Alan insisted on meeting Kal in person to thank him. The families met the following evening, and Mae brought gifts and hugs for Kal, telling him, “You don’t know how special you are to me!” With their 50th wedding anniversary approaching, the Pratzels say Kal’s honesty has restored their faith in humanity. Mae told his parents, “He is an extremely special kid, and you guys have to be so proud.”
