An Arizona woman named Rose Farmer stopped by the Gilbert, Arizona, Goodwill so her daughter could find a costume for school. While there, she started looking at books and an older woman next to her opened a book and a note fell to the ground. Rose picked up the note and was deeply moved by the message from a father to his son, Trent, and she knew right away that she needed to try and find them.
The note reads:
"Believe Trent – Believe
You are loved and respected!
So let's get going, the ride may be bumpy but we will get there.
When you believe in you as much as I do you will be there.
Dad"
Rose purchased the book, a 1940 novel by Carson McCullers called “The Heart Is A Lonely Hunter” about a blind man overcoming hopelessness, which she believes was part of the message from the father. She then turned to social media to try and locate the author of the note or his son, Trent.
So far Rose hasn’t had any luck locating Trent or his dad, but she was pleased to find that the story and the message of support is leading to some “secondhand encouragement” and having a positive effect on people. "Sometimes it takes a stranger,” Rose says. “To lift you up and say, 'You know what? I believe in you. And you can, you can do great things, you know, you can overcome any obstacle.’"
