The U.S. State Department has issued a travel alert for all of Europe. The advisory, which was released on Monday and expires on September 1, states that ISIS and Al-Qaeda have demonstrated their ability to carry out attacks in countries including France, Russia, Sweden, and the U.K.
"While local governments continue counterterrorism operations, the Department nevertheless remains concerned about the potential for future terrorist attacks," the State Department said on its website. "U.S. citizens should always be alert to the possibility that terrorist sympathizers or self-radicalized extremists may conduct attacks with little or no warning."
Americans are advised to exercise caution in busy areas like tourist hotspots and transportation hubs, "in particular during the upcoming summer travel season when large crowds may be common."
