Number of Deaths from Overdose Skyrocket

The opioid epidemic is now at a staggering level and America is being given a wake up call.

“The New York Times” has compiled figures that the medical community hopes makes families take action; last year over 59-thousand people died from overdoses. That is the largest annual jump in the numbers ever.

Sadly, the trend should be exceeded by the end of this year thanks to fentanyl and similar drugs being in the mix.

“The Times” got the data from hundreds of state health departments and county coroners and medical examiners. Together they represent data from states and counties that accounted for 76 percent of overdose deaths in 2015. Ohio is the leader of that group.

The largest overdose numbers have come from Maryland, Pennsylvania, Maine, and Florida as well. Several “save” shots are needed to revive victims who take some of the more potent opioids.
