As USA Today notes, “Olive oil is the cornerstone of the Mediterranean diet, which is praised for its various health benefits.” "The thinking is that extra-virgin olive oil is better than fruits and vegetables alone," adds senior investigator Domenico Pratico, a professor at Temple’s Lewis Katz School of Medicine. "As a monounsaturated vegetable fat, it is healthier than saturated animal fats."
