Shortly after Midnight Sunday morning, a woman lost control of her vehicle and crashed into the Brandywine Valley SPCA. A fire erupted following the crash.
No one was in the building at the time.
The driver, 33-year old Latoya Cooper, a mother of five was pronounced dead on the scene.
Three cats also died as a result of the tragedy.
First responders, neighbors and shelter personnel rallied to help save the other 98 animals at the shelter.
