Coldplay was joined by R.E.M. guitarist Peter Buck onstage in Portland, Oregon, on Monday to remember Tom Petty with a touching cover of his hit single "Free Fallin'" off his 1989 album Full Moon Fever. The performance at The Moda Center was preceded by a moment of silence for the victims of Sunday night's mass shooting at a country music festival in Las Vegas.
Coldplay has become known for commemorating tragic events during their current tour. In August, they honored Linkin Park frontman Chester Bennington with a cover of "Crawling" and paid tribute to the victims of Houston's Hurricane Harvey by performing a brand-new song called "Houston."
