An obese squirrel has gone viral for stealing candy from a New Jersey family's home. Michele Boudreux recently wrote on her blog that she leaves a treat tray outside her house for delivery people during the holidays. She recently noticed however, that more than 24 squares of luxurious Ghiradelli chocolate had disappeared from the tray just hours after she put it out.
"Why would they take the most expensive chocolate on the tray?" she wrote. "Why not rob us blind of all the Reese's and Mini Snickers since I can't seem to stop eating them?' Boudreaux and her husband decided to install a small camera to try and capture the holiday thief. "Not that we'd do anything about it, should we find the thief. We aren't like that," she explained.
"The chocolates are free, after all. It was more about KNOWING who would do such a thing." On Wednesday morning, the thief revealed itself to be a fat squirrel. Footage shows him stealing Ghiradelli squares and burying them in the yard. He also stole a Reese's Peanut Butter Cup and a tube of Carmex lip balm. Boudreaux says that she has since started putting the chocolate in a jar that requires opposable thumbs.
