It’s the stuff horror movies are made of – two California parents are under arrest on charges of torturing and starving their 13 children. The case came to light when the 17-year-old daughter of 57-year-old David Allen Turpin and 49-year-old Louise Ann Turpin – escaped from the family’s home in Perris and called police.
According to the Riverside County Sheriff's Office, officers found some of the siblings shackled to their beds – though all 13 victims were described as living in their own filth. To give you an idea of the horrendous conditions – officers say they thought the 17-year-old that escaped was actually 10 – and that all of the children appeared to be much younger than they are.
Officials say the children in question range in age from two to 29, and all have been taken to the hospital. As for the parents, investigators say they were, quote "unable to immediately provide a logical reason why their children were restrained in that manner.” The Turpins are each being held on nine-million-dollars bail.
