88 Below in Russia

Think it’s been a cold winter where you live? On Tuesday in the Russian  region of Yakutia, the temperature reached a low of 88 degrees below  zero (Fahrenheit), causing school to be canceled in a place where  children regularly brave the elements when thermostats hit 40 below.  Over the weekend, two men froze to death in the area after their car  broke down. As the AP notes, the Russian village of Oymyakon recorded a  record low of 98 below in 2013.
