BBC journalist Mohammed Salim Patel has been granted permission to use an American miniature horse to help him with his day-to-day life in Britain. The Sun reports that 8-month-old Digby the Horse will help 23-year-old Patel, who has a degenerative eye disorder, with household chores and getting around.
“I have a condition where I lost my vision and I have come across lots of people who have guide dogs,” Patel explains. “But I have a big phobia of dogs that I was not able to work out and it was good when I heard about horses being trained.” Digby currently lives with owner Katy Smith at the Northallerton Equestrian Centre. He will be ready to move in with Patel once he completes two years of intensive training.
