Instant Pot Wine

Instant Pots are super popular these days and there’s a reason you  can find one in so many kitchens – you can make just about anything in  them. Even wine, it seems. David Murphy  from the food and lifestyle site Food N Service recently tested the  waters by creating red wine in his Instant Pot. And the results? Not  bad, apparently.

For anyone who doesn’t know, an Instant Pot is basically an electric  pressure cooker, but it can also work as a sauté pan, a steamer, a  yogurt maker, and more. But we never considered using it for DIY wine.  Murphy started his process with a whole bunch of sugar and a 64-ounce  bottle of Welch’s Grape Juice, along with a packet of wine-making yeast.

The stuff “cooked” in the Instant Pot on the yogurt setting for two  days, then Murphy bottled it again, and let it sit in the dark at room  temperature for about a week and a half to let the bubbles settle. And  at the end of the process, he had a drinkable bottle of red wine.

Even Murphy admits he wasn’t convinced this experiment would work. “I  seriously didn’t think this was going to work at all,” he says. “I was  expecting a failure, but I was patient and played that annoying waiting  game. Honestly, it was so much better than some of those cheap bottles  of wine I’ve bought.”
