An 8-year-old girl who called 911 from the backseat of a stolen car helped police arrest her captor before they crossed the border to Mexico.
Rodney Cole told the San Diego Police that he left his children in the running car while stopping into a beauty supply store. According to a bystander, a woman approached the car and looked inside before jumping in and driving off with Malayha Cole and her toddler brother.
The witness said he started honking his horn to get Cole's attention. He chased his car on foot as it left the strip mall but couldn't keep up.
Cole and his daughter were calling 911 at the same time. Malayha told dispatchers she saw freeway signs that said "Mexico," and based on that intel, they presumed the car was headed south toward the border.
Officers located the car in the secondary inspection area at the San Ysidro Port of Entry. The kidnapper was taken into custody.
