Tax Day is April 17th

Tax Day Is Actually Tomorrow - Haven’t Done Your Taxes Yet? The Time Is Now Taxpayers have a few extra days to get their taxes done. While yesterday, April 15th, is the traditional tax deadline, this year's deadline is actually tomorrow, April 17th.

The reason is due to a combination of the 15th falling on a Sunday and a holiday unique to Washington, DC, that hits on Monday, April 16th. Today, the nation's capital will celebrate Emancipation Day. While it's a local holiday, it does affect when taxes are due.

The date change is confusing to new taxpayers. A recent survey by H&R Block showed that 66-percent of millennials did not know taxes are due this year on the 17th, even though they were given three dates to choose from.

Next year and for a few years after that, Tax Day returns to the usual date of April 15th. State tax returns aren’t affected, so they are due today!
