Facebook is launching its first dating service. CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced the move at the company's F8 developer conference in San Jose. He called it a natural fit since more than 200 million people list themselves as single on Facebook. The news immediately sent stock in other dating websites tumbling.
The goal is finding long-term relationships. No hook ups here. What is it that’s so different from all the other services? Here’s a breakdown.
- It has its own messaging inbox. It will be completely separate so FB friends don’t see your activity.
- You won’t be matched with any of your friends. Whew!
- It goes deeper than a profile. You will be able to “unlock” individual events or groups you’re a member of to see potential matches and people who share your interests.
- Matches will come up based on factors such as mutual friends, common interests, and dating preferences. Once you are both interested, you’ll be able to start messaging each other.In this case, you’ll have millions to choose from.
