You may have heard that there's a carbon dioxide (CO2) shortage in the United Kingdom, which is bad news for beer drinkers. To this end, CNN reports that a major UK wholesaler has taken the dramatic step of limiting bars and grocers to 10 cases of beer per brand each day. Carbon dioxide is a byproduct of ammonia produced for use in fertilizer, and the CO2 shortage stems from the fact that several major European ammonia plants are currently closed for maintenance. CNN reports that the shortage could also limit meat production, as CO2 is often used to stun animals like chicken and pigs before they're slaughtered.
