A combination of popular diabetes and immunotherapy drugs may have the power to kill breast cancer, according to a new study published in Nature Publications . Researchers found that a mix of the diabetes drug Metformin and leukemia drug Venetoclax was able to get rid of cancerous tumors in mice. The drugs were also able to kill breast cancer tissue samples obtained fresh from surgeries. Researchers are now working toward a clinical trial in humans using the same drug combo. According to the American Cancer Society, approximately 270,000 women will be diagnosed with invasive breast cancer this year. About 42,000 of them will die from the disease.
