Curtis "50 Cent" Jackson Talks Power Book III: Raising Kanan on Pop Culture Weekly with Kyle McMahon
Power blasted on to our TV screens in June 2014, captivating the world with its intriguing storylines, dynamic performances and addicting drama. Ending in February 2020, Power spawned an entire Power Universe with the first spin-off Power Book II: Ghost, starring Mary J Blige and Method Man, hitting Starz in September 2020, just a few months after the Power finale. It's success led to a third spin-off, Power Book III: Raising Kanan, which focuses on the early life of 50 Cent's Power character Kanan.
Curtis "50 Cent" Jackson sat down for Pop Culture Weekly to discuss the Power Universe franchise, his character Kanan, the incredibly talented cast surrounding him and what it's like seeing a loose retelling of his own life growing up on the streets of New York.
When asked about that loose retelling, Jackson states:
"Going back, the idea of capturing that time period was exciting to me because I'm just a fan of that time period. This is the early stages. I mean nothing to music when this story took place. It's cool to talk about that and explore those stories and that energy that was going on at that point. Put in a nutshell, television production is finding the best possible stories you can find and then just making up some sh*t".
As Power Book III: Raising Kanan wraps up it's first season, fans can look forward to Season 2 next year, as Starz has already given it the green light. The cast features Tony winner Patina Miller, Mekai Curtis, Omar Epps and Joey Bada$$ and was produced by Sascha Penn. Power Book III: Raising Kanan airs exclusively on Starz, Sundays at 8pm EST.
