Elton John Becomes Just the 19th EGOT Winner After Historic Emmy Win for 'Elton John: Farewell from Dodger Stadium'

The legendary singer / songwriter Elton John has now joined the exclusive list of EGOT winners. The term EGOT refers to those who have won all four of the most prestigious awards in the entertainment industry: an Emmy Award (for Television), a Grammy Award (for Music), an Oscar (for Film and Movies), and a Tony Award (for Stage and Broadway). This is after Elton won his first Emmy at the 2024 Emmy Awards on January 15th, 2024. His Disney+ special, "Elton John Live: Farewell from Dodger Stadium" won the Emmy for Outstanding Variety Series, making him only the 19th person in history to achieve the famed EGOT status.

Elton John: Farewell from Dodger Stadium was a historic event, as it was his last ever show in North America on tour, as part of his 330 show, 6.1 million attending $1 billion dollar grossing "Farewell Yellow Brick Road Tour". The show was also the first live global stream for Disney+’. The concert was held at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles on November 20, 2022 and featured some of his greatest hits, including “Rocket Man,” “Tiny Dancer,” and “Goodbye Yellow Brick Road" among its 24 songs. The concert was a massive success, and was watched by millions of people around the world.

In a statement, the legend said:

"I am incredibly humbled to be joining the unbelievably talented group of EGOT winners tonight. The journey to this moment has been filled with passion, dedication, and the unwavering support of my fans all around the world," he said, "Tonight is a testament to the power of the arts and the joy that it brings to all our lives. Thank you to everyone who has supported me throughout my career, I am incredibly grateful."

Elton's first Grammy win was in 1987 when he won Best Pop Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocals for "That's What Friends Are For" alongside Dionne Warwick, Gladys Knight and Stevie Wonder, billed as "Dionne Warwick & Friends". His first Oscar came in 1995 when 'Can You Feel The Love Tonight?' won Best Original Song from The Lion King. In 2000, John won the Tony for Best Original Score for Aida. He has since gone on to win four more Grammys and another Oscar.

Elton John’s EGOT win is a testament to his incredible talent and hard work. He has been a trailblazer in the music industry and has inspired generations of musicians. He has worked with thoudsnfd of other artists throughout his career from recent hits with Britney Spears and Dua Lipa to classic hits with Aretha Franklin, George Michael and Stevie Wonder to deep cuts with Stevie Nicks and Ozzy Osbourne.
