Taco Bell is one of America’s favorite chains known for its menu variety and affordable prices but lately, like many other chains, they have increased prices on some items and fans are not happy. Inflation has impacted almost everything in the past couple of years, but Taco Bell’s prices increased 14.6% in 2022 according to Market Scale. The average price for an item was $2.80 in 2021 and it’s now $3.37 and customers have also noticed shrinking portions, aka ‘shrinkflation.”
One Twitter user noted “The price increase and size decrease in tacos is disgusting” and “Taco Bell is no longer for the poor.” Another user said that they quit going to Taco Bell after the price increase and “no way should one burrito cost 6.99 from a fast food place.” TikTokers are coming up with hacks to save money with one suggesting that you order a single menu item which allows an option to add a small portion of potatoes or rice for 60 cents each. The “on the side” option gets a larger portion of sides.
So far Taco Bell has not responded to the criticism and there’s no indication of prices dropping anytime soon so it may be time to get creative.
