DDG: 911 Dispatcher Helps Girl Stop Car After Mom’s Medical Emergency

When Barbara Foss became unresponsive while driving on the highway in North-Central Minnesota, her 13-year-old daughter, Abby Foss, took control of the situation, saving them both. The teen noticed her mom was experiencing a medical episode and wasn’t responding to her, so she immediately called 911.

The dispatcher sent deputies and medical response units to assist and guided Abby in steering and slowing down the vehicle. She successfully brought the vehicle to a safe stop, thanks to the instructions from the 911 dispatcher. Her mother was then transported to a nearby hospital for treatment of her medical emergency.

The swift and effective coordination between Abby and the dispatcher prevented a potential tragedy. In recognition of her life saving actions and quick thinking, the Hubbard County Sheriff's Office presented her with an award for courage and bravery.
