DDG: Fans Raise $260K For Cat Rescue In Honor Of Bills Kicker Tyler Bass

After missing the field goal that would have resulted in a tied score with two minutes left in the playoff game against the Kansas City Chiefs, fans rallied behind Buffalo Bills kicker Tyler Bass. The missed kick led to online criticism and hate directed at Bass, so in response, supporters came together and raised over $260-thousand for the Ten Lives Club, a cat adoption charity that Bass has previously endorsed. Notable contributions came from TV personality Rachael Ray and pet food brand Nutrish, who together donated $30-thousand.

Bass's connection with the Ten Lives Club began through the nonprofit organization Show Our Softside, which works with athletes to help prevent animal abuse. Bass spent time with some rescue kittens from Ten Lives and even took part in a photo shoot with them. A pic of him with the kittens hangs in the shelter's lobby.

While the missed field goal was a disappointing moment for the Buffalo Bills and their fans, Kimberly LaRussa of the Ten Lives Club hopes that Bass can take comfort in the overwhelming support and love he’s received. “Tyler doesn’t deserve any of the hate he’s receiving. He’s an excellent football player and an even better person who took the time to help our organization and rescue cats last year,” Ten Lives Club shared on social media, adding, “Leave our friend alone.”
