DDG: Dad Buys Dying Son A Mustang, Ford CEO Sends Him To Racing School

Since he was a young child, Joseph Tegardine had always dreamed of owning a Ford Mustang. At 11-years-old Joseph learned that he had bone cancer and after years of treatment, it spread to his lungs and he’s been given just months to live. Despite his dire prognosis, Joseph, now 18, has been working to save up for his dream car. Recognizing that his son might not ever realize his dream, Joseph's father, Joe, decided to buy him a 2020 Mustang EcoBoost. Joseph was overjoyed and was determined to enjoy every moment in his new ride, in spite of his illness.

Following a heartwarming social media post from Joe explaining why he’d bought his son the Mustang, Ford CEO Jim Farley offered Joseph a unique opportunity. Farley invited Joseph and his father to attend the Ford Performance Racing School in Charlotte, North Carolina. The all-expenses-paid experience includes professional driving instruction for Joseph to learn how to handle his Mustang and an opportunity to drive a powerful Ford track Mustang called the Dark Horse.

Joseph's upcoming adventure at the racing school will help him to squeeze all the life out of his few remaining days. He remains grateful for the present and his future which includes an upcoming trip to Japan. He doesn’t know how long he has, but he plans to make the most of it.
