Daily Do Good: “Angel” Pulls Over To Save Choking Toddler On Side Of Road

Columbia, South Carolina, grandmother Dale Davis recently faced a terrifying situation when her two-year-old grandson, Amir, began choking in the car on their way home from a doctor’s appointment. Noticing him gagging and struggling to breathe through her rearview mirror, Davis immediately stopped her car in the middle of a busy road, turned on her flashers, and attempted to perform CPR. She says she felt helpless as cars sped by, with no one stopping to help.

A local social worker, Anidra Ragin, was driving to pick up her children from school when she noticed the stopped car and saw Davis and Amir in distress. Risking her own safety, Ragin parked her truck to block oncoming traffic, approached Davis, and calmly took over the situation. She called 911 and continued CPR until the toddler began breathing again, just before paramedics arrived to take him to the hospital.

Amir is now recovering, thanks to Ragin’s bravery and quick thinking. Davis, who calls Ragin her “angel,” expressed deep gratitude for her actions. Reflecting on the incident, Ragin says she hopes her actions inspire others to step in when they see a situation where they might be able to help, adding, “That’s what we should do for each other.”
