Daily Do Good: Restaurant Manager Saves Choking Baby From Drive-Thru Window

A quick-thinking restaurant manager in Orange, Texas, recently became an unexpected hero when a distressed mother pulled up to the drive-thru window. Nicalet Wilkerson, the manager at Bliss Box, noticed something was wrong when she saw the woman holding a baby out of her car window. The mom handed the baby over to Wilkerson who quickly realized the child was choking.

Despite having no medical training or children of her own, she took the child. Relying on instinct, Wilkerson stayed calm and gave the baby a few firm pats on the back, hoping to dislodge whatever was blocking its airway. Relief washed over her when the baby let out a strong cry, and started breathing again. She then handed the child back to the emotional mother, who thanked her before driving off.

The intense moment left Wilkerson shaken but proud of her actions. She ended up leaving work an hour early to process what had happened. Reflecting on the experience, she expressed gratitude for being able to help in such a critical situation. Though she never got the mother’s name, Wilkerson hopes both she and the baby are safe and healthy.
