A school nurse recently became an unexpected hero when she helped deliver a colleague’s baby at a Pennsylvania elementary school. Walter S. Miller Elementary School nurse Stephanie Frisco sprang into action after reading specialist Genevieve Peto, who was near her due date, began feeling unusual pressure while at work. Realizing the urgency, Frisco quickly set up a space for her to lie down and, within ten minutes, helped deliver a healthy 5-pound, 4-ounce baby girl named Cora.
Despite having never delivered a baby before, Frisco relied on her medical training to make sure that both mother and baby were safe. The newborn’s father, Todd Peto, was teaching a class at his own school when he received the life-changing call. Now home with her parents, baby Cora will always have a unique relationship with the school where she made her surprise arrival.
The Peto family are deeply grateful for Frisco’s quick thinking and consider her a true angel for stepping in when it mattered most. For her part, the nurse is honored to have been able to be a part of the moment and says she’ll never forget the experience.
