New App Forces Users To Touch Grass Before They Can Unlock Their Phone

A new app called "Touch Grass" has a unique approach to fighting excessive use of social media. Developed by Rhys Kentish from London, the app blocks access to social media platforms until users physically go outside and touch grass. To unlock their apps, users must take a photo of themselves touching grass, after which they can choose to unlock their apps for 15 minutes, 60 minutes, or until sunset.

Kentish created the app to address his own habit of excessive scrolling and to encourage others to reconnect with the outdoors. The app's game-like design aims to appeal to young adults, a demographic significantly affected by internet addiction. Set to launch on March 14 exclusively on the Apple App Store, an Android version is planned for later this year.
