Llewellyn and Sue-Ann Venter feel incredibly fortunate to be alive after a car crashed through their home in Rolleston, New Zealand, early Saturday morning. The accident occurred around 3:30 a.m. while they were in bed, and Llewellyn narrowly avoided being crushed by a doorframe. Sue-Ann was trapped under the vehicle’s wheel but was freed by her husband, who managed to lift the car off of her. They credit a curtain and sheer luck for protecting them from flying debris.
Despite the severity of the crash, the Venters walked away with only minor injuries, as did the driver of the vehicle. Their bedroom however, was left in ruins, with bricks and debris scattered all over the place. The couple has been overwhelmed by the support from neighbors and the community, and they expressed deep gratitude for those who rushed to help immediately after the accident.
The Venters are now staying with friends while they search for a new rental home and try to process the traumatic event. Llewellyn calls their survival an "absolute miracle" and hopes their experience will serve as a reminder for people to drive carefully.
