Dandridge, Tennessee, 13-year-old Ty Collins selflessly used his Make-A-Wish opportunity to help other children at East Tennessee Children’s Hospital. Having battled pulmonary hypertension and undergone surgery, he remembered how playing video games helped him pass the time during his hospital stay. Wanting to provide that same comfort to others, he chose to use his wish to donate an Xbox One Gamers Outreach Kart designed specifically for hospital use.
On Wednesday, Make-A-Wish East Tennessee granted Ty’s wish, with the teen getting to personally unveil the gaming console at the hospital. He says he hopes that the system will make hospital stays a little easier for other children facing serious illnesses. His generosity and thoughtfulness touched many, deciding to make an impact over his personal desires.
To show appreciation for his kindness, the hospital’s Child Life Therapy Team presented Ty with a goodie bag filled with gifts. He says that while hospital experiences can be difficult, small joys like gaming can make them more bearable. His selfless wish has created a lasting way to bring comfort to young patients during challenging times.
