A golden retriever named Zoie is being celebrated as a hero after helping rescue a missing toddler last week. Zoie’s owner was at his computer when the usually calm dog started urgently barking while staring out the front window. Her behavior led him to notice a young boy, around three years old, wandering into a neighbor’s backyard.
With two other neighbors, Zoie’s owner approached the boy and asked him his name. He just shrugged, so they walked him around the neighborhood looking for his family before Zoie’s owner called 911. The dispatcher quickly confirmed they’d been searching for the child and officers arrived within minutes to bring the toddler safely back to his family.
The boy had been missing for about 30 minutes and had wandered half a mile from a busy road. His family was soon reunited with him, and two officers later stopped by Zoie’s home to thank the dog and complete their report. Zoie enjoyed the attention, receiving some well-earned affection and praise for her heroic actions.
