Veteran Philadelphia trolley operator Tracy Holmes-Williams is making a difference every day on her Route 36 trolley in Southwest Philadelphia. Known as "Tracy's Trolley," her vehicle is filled with uplifting messages and motivational quotes. The inside of her trolley is covered with placards and notes sharing messages like “Have a wonderful day!” and “Smile, and the whole world smiles with you.”
Tracy’s goal is to brighten each passenger’s day, using simple messages to encourage positive energy. She also sends heart signals to other drivers, saying, “I don’t know what kind of day they’re having.” The trolley operator also includes references to the Eagles and Phillies in her decorations to add a local touch.
Tracy believes a positive attitude can shape the day and is proud when riders thank her. She sees trolley operators as “frontline workers” and is on a mission to make people feel good. “Keep those positive vibes,” she says, “Stay smiling, and you’ll be alright!”
