An off-duty correctional officer in California is being hailed a hero for recently saving two teenage girls from a serious car crash. While driving on Highway 25 with his K-9 partner, Anna, Salinas Valley State Prison Correctional Officer Thomas Grady witnessed a Honda CRV veer into a ditch, flip several times, and crash into a power pole before catching fire. He quickly pulled over, called 911, and managed to pull the trapped girls to safety through the vehicle’s sunroof.
After rescuing the teens, Officer Grady brought them to his vehicle where K-9 Anna, a trained support dog, gave the shaken girls some emotional comfort. He stayed with the girls until emergency responders and their parents arrived, earning him heartfelt thanks for his quick thinking and compassionate response. The girls were helped by Anna’s calming presence during the traumatic ordeal.
One of the teens describes Officer Grady and Anna as their “guardian angels,” saying she’s grateful for both the rescue and emotional support they provided. “It was almost as if [Anna] could sense the trauma,” the teen says. The teenagers credit the duo with saving their lives and say they will never forget their kindness and bravery.
