Earlier this week, Tino Mora was doing landscaping work in Naperville, Illinois, when he witnessed a car crash into a nearby pond. He saw a woman trapped inside the submerged vehicle, banging on the window and calling for help. Without hesitation, he jumped into the water, opened the passenger door, and pulled the woman to safety.
The pond was six feet deep, and the woman, who couldn’t swim, was at serious risk. Mora held her head above the water until emergency responders arrived. Plainfield Fire Protection District Chief Vito Bonomo III credits Mora with saving the woman’s life, saying it’s not clear what might have happened had the vehicle gone under more quickly.
The woman’s husband shares that she’s shaken by the experience, but is physically fine. He says they’re deeply grateful to Mora for his lifesaving actions.
