A 45-year-old man from Van Buren County, Michigan, recently won $1-million from a Major Cashword scratch-off ticket that he received by mistake. He’d asked for a different ticket at a Speedway gas station in Paw Paw, but the cashier accidentally gave him the Major Cashword game instead. Luckily, when offered the chance to swap it out, he decided to keep the ticket.
The following morning, the man’s wife scanned the ticket using a lottery app and discovered it was a big winner. He says he was in disbelief at first, thinking it was a prank. Once he confirmed it was real, he started worrying about not losing the ticket.
To keep it safe, he buried the ticket in a jar in his yard until it could be claimed. The winner told Michigan Lottery officials he plans to use the prize money to pay off his house, cover bills, and save for retirement.
