Buford, the dog who recently helped rescue two-year-old Bodin Allen in the Arizona wilderness, is now receiving gifts from around the world. On Monday afternoon, Bodin and Buford were reunited for the first time since the rescue. “It’s a story of faith on my side,” says Bodin’s father, Corey Allen, reflecting on the miraculous outcome.
Bodin had wandered away from his home on April 14th and walked seven miles through rough terrain before being found. According to search and rescue officials, the toddler somehow avoided wild animals and injuries while spending the entire night outside. Buford, an Anatolian Pyrenees dog, is believed to have stayed with the boy during the night and guided him to Dunton Ranch, where he lives with his owner, local rancher Scotty Dunton.
Since the story has spread, Buford has received toys, treats, and snacks sent to the ranch from people across the globe. He was also made an honorary member of the Yavapai County Search and Rescue Team and received an official vest. “They’re just glad that they were found,” says Search and Rescue Manager John Harris. Bodin's family is back to normal life, but they say they’ll never forget the brave ranch dog who saved their son.
