Steven Spielberg says this is "The greatest American Film ever made"

This week the American Film Institute honored Francis Ford Coppola with it's 50th Lifetime Achievement Award. On hand to present the award were two other great film makers. Steven Spielberg and George Lucas both took the stage to honor the now 86 year old Coppola. While doing the presentation Spielberg declared Coppola's 1972 classic "The Godfather" was "The greatest American Film ever made." Coppola seemed pretty shocked after Spielberg's high praise. He covered his face with his hands. I've watched "The Godfather" many times. Every time I watch there's something new I didn't pick up on before. Everything about the film was brilliant. That being said for me it's a toss up for the greatest American Film ever made. "Jaws" vs. "The Godfather". It's a tie.
