Earlier this week, eight mothers in Maryland received a special surprise just before Mother’s Day when the nonprofit Vehicles for Change, in partnership with Mile One Autogroup, gifted each of them a car. All of the moms were struggling without reliable transportation, making it difficult to commute to work or handle daily errands.
The mothers who received the cars were visibly emotional and thankful, saying how the support will transform their daily lives and allow them to spend more time with their loved ones. One of the moms, Mikia Gardener, shares that in addition to cutting her commute time from over three hours to just 20 minutes, the car will also allow her to look for a second job and consider returning to school.
Since 2017, Vehicles for Change has donated over 220 vehicles, worth more than $1.5-million, to support families in need. The organization’s mission is to help people gain independence by providing them with access to transportation, empowering them to pursue jobs, education, and family commitments.
