Daily Do Good: Cali Teen Throws Prom For Los Angeles Fire Victims

After the 2025 Los Angeles wildfires, 14-year-old Avery Colvert founded a nonprofit called Altadena Girls, aiming to support teen girls who were affected by the disaster. Through the nonprofit, she organized a special event, the Altadena Girls Prom 2025, which gave 400 teens an opportunity to enjoy a spring dance they otherwise would have missed out on because of the destruction of their schools or homes. The event was held last weekend and sponsored by brands like Revolve, H&M, and Fabletics.

The teen organizer says the event’s theme, “glitter and glam,” was about self-expression and embracing individuality. She expressed gratitude for the support from her family and brands she admires, and shared that the event came together quickly thanks to the help she received from many people. Celebrities including Meghan MarkleDemi Lovato, and Paris Hilton lent their support to the cause.

Colvert says it was exciting to see everyone having fun after a difficult few months and hopes the event provided a joyful and memorable experience. She also hopes to continue helping people and building community through her work with Altadena Girls.
