Daily Do Good: Shelter Creates "Mutternity Suites" For Pregnant Stray Dogs

Three Little Pitties Rescue in Friendswood, Texas, recently partnered with Tito's Handmade Vodka’s Vodka for Dog People program to upgrade three sheds into “mutternity suites” for stray pregnant dogs. Volunteers painted, cleaned, and decorated the spaces, adding lighting, doggie doors, flower boxes, and grooming areas to create a calm and secure environment.

The makeover was perfectly timed as a pregnant dog transferred from an overcrowded shelter gave birth on the same day they were completed, delivering nine puppies who immediately moved into one of the new suites. Tito’s program director, Beth Bellanti, says they have a long-standing commitment to rescue dogs and were inspired by Three Little Pitties’ work.

Tito’s Vodka has been involved in numerous animal rescue initiatives and they’ve saved more than 160 dogs at their distillery. Three Little Pitties executive director Alayna Matranga Goodson says that fostering dog moms is a vital way the community can help. Both Goodson and Bellanti are grateful for the encouragement and support they’ve received, saying that it drives them to continue improving the lives of stray animals in Houston.
