DDG: K-9 Leads To Rescue Of Missing Teen Found In Ravine After 76 Hours

Last week, 13-year-old Dakota “Cody” Trenkle Jr was found alive after surviving more than 76 hours in a ravine near his home in Goose Creek Lake, Missouri. He went missing Sunday morning after falling off his skateboard, which kicked off a big search effort. On Wednesday, K9 Daryl, a trained bloodhound from the Farmington Correctional Center located Cody 240 feet down in a wooded ravine.

The search team included Cody’s aunt Brittney, a volunteer firefighter, who helped organize efforts and called in the K-9 unit. Daryl found the teen just 21 minutes after picking up the scent near where his brother had found the skateboard. Rescuers found him soaking wet, suffering from dehydration, but conscious. He wasn’t able to speak, but he responded with his eyes as they gave him water and called for help.

Cody suffered a brain bleed, bruises, and dehydration, but had no broken bones. He was airlifted to a hospital in St. Louis, where he’s in critical condition and being kept in a medically induced coma. His family describes him as a lifelong fighter, born prematurely and resilient, and they are holding onto hope that he’ll make it through.
