Daily Do Good: Strangers Donate Wheelchair-Accessible Van To Family In Need

A family in Colonial Heights, Virginia, recently lost the use of their wheelchair-accessible van when the motor broke, so they turned to their community for help. Vanessa Stephenson’s daughter Jasmine, who has cerebral palsy and a seizure disorder, cannot walk or speak, and her son, who recently turned 25, has autism and seizures. Hoping to find someone to help them with their transportation dilemma, Vanessa reached out to CBS 6 in Richmond, who shared their story on air.

A few weeks later, the Stephensons heard from a couple who live just 30 minutes away, saw the story, and decided to help. Heather and her husband delivered a wheelchair-accessible van to the Stephenson home over the weekend, a van they’d originally purchased for their own daughter. The van includes a lift and room for the entire family.

Vanessa says she’s deeply grateful for the generosity. “Just that somebody would, they would take the time out to bless us like that, that means a lot and I’m grateful,” she shares. “It’s our duty to be able to pay it forward and bless someone else,” says Heather, who donated the van, adding, “We’re just blessed to be able to do that.”
