For the last eight years, Craig Clark, of Sarasota, Florida, has been rebuilding old laptops and gifting them to people in need. Affectionately known as the “Tech Fairy,” the 79-year-old former 7-Eleven executive has given away more than 700 refurbished computers and has been recognized locally and nationally for his initiative.
Clark started the project when people would give him their old computers after he set up their new ones. At his own expense, he installs a new hard drive and sometimes a new battery before giving it to someone who wouldn’t otherwise be able to afford a new computer. The initiative has grown since he started posting pics of the smiling recipients online.
“I get a lot of credit for this project but I never forget that this effort is possible only because of the selfless folks who donate their used devices to me,” he says. He describes the initiative as a true community effort, one that continues to spread kindness and opportunity across Florida.
