A family in Toms River, New Jersey, is crediting their neighbors with saving their lives after a late-night house fire. The home’s doorbell camera shows the neighbors running through flames, pounding on doors and windows, and shouting for the residents to get out. Homeowner Jonathan Pope recalls the moment he realized the commotion was not a break-in, but a warning that his house was on fire.
His wife quickly carried their nine-month-old baby outside while he followed close behind. The family had been in a back bedroom and was completely unaware of the fire until they heard their neighbors’ urgent banging. “They saved our family,” Pope says.
After the fire, neighbors continued to support the family by bringing water and offering a place to change the baby. Although the home suffered extensive smoke and water damage, thanks to the neighbors’ heroic efforts, everyone made it out unharmed. The cause of the fire is still unknown, but the Popes say they are especially thankful for the life-saving efforts of their community.
